Executive Board Meeting
March 15, 2011

The Board meeting was called to order at 6:38p.m. by Vice President, Steve Wieber, in the meeting room of the Culver City Julian Dixon Library. Then our President, Wanda Anesh came in and took over. Board members in attendance were, Renee Pryor, Steve Wieber, Alan Corlin, Elaine Hirohama, Laura Frakes, Nancy Kuechle, Sharon Hyland-Elstein, Neil Rubinstein, Aileen Zeidman, Kevin Commins.

Standing Reports

Treasurer's Report - John has contacted the insurance company.

Book Sale Chair's Report - Transition going smoothly. Book sale is good. We are setting books aside for book sale.

The set up for edible books is at 11:30. We will between 8-10 boxes of books.

Membership Chair's Report 260 mailings had to be redone-35 membership, 5 return address. We had two uniform helpers.

Mailings are sent out 4 times a year. The membership's for renewal is about 600 when mailing them out.

The newsletter will be revised with options, pick them up at the library , or e-mail.

A motion was passed by Sharon, seconded by Nancy, with regard to the pick or e-mail.

Chair Report Saturday is the cake decorating at the library. Nancy has posters to post at the senior center.

For the edible book festival, Linda is ill, she may not be at Gyenari. The festival will begin at 12:30. We will have judges, Noelle Carter, from L. A. Times Test Kitchen, Vicki Fan, is from Beacon Catering, Clemence Gossett, of Gourmandise.

We need people to take money and we need to leave by 4:30.

A motion was passed to buy cookies for $75.00. We will not be able to eat the edible books.

Service Dogs has been postponed until June. Story time for April is Spring and Butterflies , May is Mother's Day, June is Service Dogs.

Publication Chair Report Aileen said April 1st the newsletter goes out.

Library Report Laura reported the library has received the disc cleaning system.

She requested the Friends purchase a hand-shaped chair for the teen area and a wood newspaper handout rack. The group approved the purchases but authorized Laura to visit Borders stores that are soon to go out of business to see if they have anything comparable to the newspaper rack and also to see if they have other furnishings or fixtures that the library could use. The group approved spending up to an additional $1,000 on sure purchases. Sharon will visit a bookstore that is going out of business in the Westchester area.

Information about the upcoming FOL Exchange was passed out.

Laura mentioned that there might be a viewing event for a larger Julian Dixon plaque in the lobby in the future - date to be determined. When that happens the Culver City Historical Society may create a display for the event. If so, they will use the case traditionally used by the FOL due to the proximity to the plaque. The Friends display will be transferred to another case and then restored when the Historical Society removes their display after the event.

A parent or guardian needs to sign a consent form for an individual picture taken for a single child. Not for a group picture.

Old Business Regarding the shed, Valencia Library, gave Laura info about them. A shed that is 12 x 16 is priced at $5,000. A shed to be used as a sorting facility starts about $2,008. How big of a shed and where will it go will we need. Will we seat the shed on crushed gravel or cement. Laura will ask the county where, size, gravel or cement. We will need to have the county here and have a board meeting. Will we need a city permit or county, fee or no fee. We will need to have lights, temperature, and outlets.
